LGs makes some of the best TVs on the market. But it’s frustrating when your remote breaks down.
If your LG TV remote is not working, here are the most common and effective ways to fix a broken LG TV remote. For best results, follow them in order.
This guide is for remotes that are manufactured by LG (i.e. remotes that come with the TV itself). This includes their standard remote, and Magic remote.
This will be your issue 99% of the time, particularly if every single button isn’t working.
Change the batteries with brand new ones—don’t mix and match, as the remote may still have a weak signal, and not resolve the problem fully. If you have a Magic remote, you may need to re-pair the remote to the TV. Check out the section below on how to do this.
If you’ve changed the batteries and the remote still isn’t working, you may need to reset the television by unplugging it. Complete this steps:
The infrared (IR) sensor is the part of the TV that receives the signal from the remote. If the sensor is blocked by something such as a sound bar, glass, or another object, the TV won’t be able to receive the signal, and the remote won’t work.
The infrared sensor is usually placed on the bottom right corner of the LG television. But to be on the safe side, remove objects away from the entire TV (particularly its bottom section).
To check whether the infrared sensor on your remote is working, face your phone’s camera at its top end, and then press one of the remote buttons. You should see a red flash. If you don’t, you can request a remote repair from LG, or buy a replacement.
If you have a Magic remote, you’ll need to pair it to the TV for it to work (you may also need to do this again after replacing the batteries).
To pair the remote to your TV, all you need to do is hold down the OK or mute button for 5 seconds, while pointing it at the television. Easy!

Sometimes, the LG remote “unpairs” itself from the TV. You can fix this issue by re-pairing with these instructions:
Hold down the “Home” and “Back” buttons at the same time, for 5 seconds. The remote’s power light should blink to confirm.
Press the “OK” button in the centre of the remote (it sits on either side of the scroll wheel)
TVs are essentially computers, and sometimes they need to be reset. To reset your LG TV, unplug it from the wall from 60 seconds, and then re-plug it back in.
